Honest Work By Conrad Crooks

Curated by Claudine Mailei

13-22 June

Glen Innes

A photographic series highlighting the 2023 Saofa'i ceremony that took place in Lufilufi, Samoa. The exhibition takes its title from the phrase "it ain't much but it's honest work," a caption in meme culture often paired with an image or scenario that may seem mundane but is presented as if it’s extremely important.

Conrad Crooks, a self-described hobbyist photographer, has given permission to share these photos from his first trip to Samoa. What began as a "nice thing to do" turned into capturing cherished memories for all, celebrating family and reflecting on the deep cultural significance of the ceremony.

Our annual Matariki exhibition at The Good The Bad showcases an exciting and diverse range of contemporary art by six wāhine Māori artists. The exhibition explores connection to our identity, each other, tipuna, and the land, displayed across two venues in Tāmaki – The Good The Bad in Glen Innes and the launch of its new community arts space in the heart of Panmure.

About

The Good The Bad is the first art gallery in Tāmaki est. in Glen Innes in 2015. It is a grassroots, artist-run, community-led arts space supported by TGTB Charitable Trust and Tāmaki Regeneration.

We provide opportunities for artists of all ages and experience to present their art publicly, and engage our local community in Tāmaki with meaningful arts experiences.

We believe the arts should be freely and easily accessible to everyone, and seek to remove barriers that may prevent access to and participation in the arts.

You can find us at 11 Mayfair Place in Glen Innes and 37 Queens Road in Panmure.
